We calculate ratings using the Elo system, which is one of the most popular methods among chess leagues. With the Elo system, players start with a rating (which we calculate as 50 × age + 550) that increases and decreases based on their performance in tournaments.
With the Elo system, unexpected victories or losses change ratings dramatically. Ratings are most accurate for active players. We use a value of 32 for the K variablility constant when calculating new ratings. After 10 games, a player’s K constant drops to 20 to account for stabilization.
All ratings are cleared at the beginning of each season.
